Bush's approval drops to all-time low

October 8, 2006 - 6:20PM

US President George Bush's approval rating has declined to an all-time low of 33 per cent this month, down from 36 per cent in August, according to Newsweek's latest poll.

The US weekly magazine said its fresh poll, taken on Thursday and Friday, shows 67 per cent of Americans are not satisfied with the direction of the country, compared with 25 per cent who are.

The poll came as Bush and his fellow Republicans were gripped by military and moral quagmires including the Iraq war and a sex scandal involving former Florida Republican congressman Mark Foley.

For the first time in the Newsweek poll, a majority of Americans believe the Bush administration misled the American public in building its case for the Iraq war by a margin of 58 per cent to 36 per cent who think it did not.

The poll also found that Americans are pessimistic about the ongoing hostilities in Iraq, with 64 per cent believing the United States is losing ground there, 66 per cent saying the war has not made the United States safer from terrorism, and 53 per cent believing it was a mistake to go to war at all.

Maybe Bush's recent poll ratings are at an all-time low because people are waking up to the hard truth that it's NOT about a "war on terror" or "fighting for freedoms"--but that's it's REALLY all about THIS!...

I don't pay attention to polls.I can make up my own mind without them. Thankfully for our country Pres. Bush doesn't pay attention to polls either. He does what he thinks is right and doesn't worry about whether it's popular or not. Anybody can have a high approval rating if they just follow the polls and do what's popular instead of making decisions, which is what he's paid to do.

I dont. What you will learn someday, is that you can make any poll say anything you want based on the questions asked. It's a base form of manipulating public opinion, because many never see the questions asked or the context in which the questions are asked.

Do yourself a favor and ignore polls- if you care about polls, chances are you're being manipulated as well as being lied to.

Strange... his numbers are going up yet still at an all time low? Hmm could the pollsters be a bit biased in their reporting?

This is someone's view. It doesn't mean the majority is right and it doesn't mean it is wrong. These polls make no difference on how I view the president and I hope it doesn't affect how Bush preforms in office.

He was never been any good since he has been in office. His administration just tries to deceive and scare the American public.

I'm with you up there, sway. They never call me. But I do remember election night '04 when the exit pollsters were gleefully projecting their man Kerry was winning big-time. Fortunately for America that didn't happen.
