I'm 28 and have been DXed with abnormal cells on my cervix. I have to have them removed. I'm deathly afraid of pain and my cervix is super sensitive. I don't like the idea of needles in my cervix! Are there alternatives? They mentioned something about a regional or general pain reliever.

Go for General. I had the procedure done about a week and a half ago, and I had a choice of being put to sleep or local. General takes longer of course, but there is no pain. I was terrified of having a needle in my cervix, especially while I was awake, but my doctor actually suggested general. I had the surgery on a Friday and returned to work on Monday. I had no problems with pain, except for a very dull ache the first twenty-four hours. Hope everything goes ok. Good luck.

You might ask about an epidural. That will numb you from the point of insertion down. You'd be awake, but not feel anything. They would drap you so you couldn't see what was happening either.

Try tramadol. Its a mild pain reliever w/o the side effects of drowsiness and addiction. This is something my grandma, and mom have used, and they have the same feelings torwards pain as you do.

Ask your doctor and see what he/she says.

I cannot believe she gave you a choice. They usually do a local.
