The problem is that for every person like you that decides to move to Las Vegas there are a thousand other people like you that does the same thing.
Vegas is growing like crazy, lots of people move out there. Therefore while there is plenty of employment it is pretty much an employers market out there. They can pick and choose from the huge influx of people, and so unless you are superior to those other people you are SOL.
I knew three people who moved out the Vegas. They rented an apartment together, packed up all their stuff and just moved out there. All of them were experienced poker dealers.
Last I heard, two of them had found employment working as a cashier, one at the Stratosphere another at Mandalay Bay. I can't imagine that they make a great deal of money, in fact I imagine that their quality of life is no better than where they used to live.
I think that's the biggest problem I have with Vegas. As cool as it may be for a vacation, unless you have a large amount of money it's not that cool. All of the things that make it cool, the shows, the restaurants, the attractions, the clubs, it all costs money. Lots of money. So unless you have a very well paying job, all that cool stuff will be not be affordable to you. Therefore being in Vegas is pretty pointless. It's like standing outside a Porsche dealership looking at the new cars. While that might be fun to do, sooner or later the frustration of not being able to afford any of them will become irritating. Vegas is full of rich people squandering their money and having a good time. I just think that is going to get old very quickly unless you land a killer job and make some amazing money. That is easier said than done.

Depends on what you do. Vegas is a great place to live, and I think just about anyone can make it there. You need realistic expectations. Don't expect to walk into a casino and get a job your first day in town, those jobs are hard to get, and you usually have to know someone to get in. But there are plenty of other jobs, mostly service and hospitality oriented, but it's like any other city in the US with careers in every field available.

it depends on what you do. snow plowing isnt really in demand out here. and no, you cant be a prostitute, its illegal in clark county. if you work in a casino you can make a decent amount of money. even at one of the big casinos off the strip (as i would opt for, i hate driving to the strip)

It really depends on what field you're in. Obviously, someone with a background in hospitality would do better than someone who's a stockbroker.
