Can you upgrade a computer online or how is it you do that?

See i have the highest speed of cable internet yet my computer is still slow. It is like i am on dial-up. What could be wrong with my computer? I have defraged, cleaned disk and all of that so what does it need? It is a hp pavilion..It is about i guess 3 years old. Plus can someone tell me how i can add virus software free to it too?

do you mean your internet's slow or your computer itself is slow? i'm guessing it's your computer. you probably need more memory or a better processor. another way is to just clean your computer for spyware and viruses!!

Hey there. There are several things that can be causing your computer to be running slow. If you have an older HP then it could be a lack of RAM (which can be bought and upgraded by taking your machine to Best Buy). It could also be a slower hard drive (which can also be resolved in the same way. Anyway we cut it, you're probably stuck buying an upgrade. Depending on how full your hard drive is, this could be causing an issue too. If you have excessive games or just applications on your drive it can cause it to slow down. Finally, you're right on the money with wanting to get virus protection. This could be causing it to slow down as well. In my own opinion, I would suggest downloading AVG Free (http://free.grisoft.com/) and running the virus scan. If that doesn't improve performance, then I would move onto finding applications that you don't use anymore and uninstalling them. This can be done through the Add/Remove programs in the Control panel. Finally, I would take the PC to Best Buy and talk to the "Geek Squad" for upgrading your machine. This way it is done professionally and doesn't cost anymore than buying the parts to have it upgraded. You can just walk into the store and ask for help and suggestions. Good luck :)

No you can not UP GRADE a computer on line. Things you can do to make it faster is cut down on the number of programs you are running at one time (if you don't need running it close it.). The second thing is if you are ON Line you should have some type of Virus software running (my cable company provides it free, also AOL provides it free too). Also you should have some type of Spy ware Scanner installed (Spy ware and Adware can slow your computer down). You can also add hardware to your computer more RAM will make the computer faster also.

usually, you can go on hp.com or whatever the site is, and submit your computer's serial number. from there, they should have downloads for stuff like virus software (sometimes, it is a 30 or 60 day trial, though, make sure you read it first). it could be that your computer is starting to get a little out of date. in order to update your computer, you will have to buy windows 2000 or xp or whatever you want to upgrade to, and that can be pretty expensive. i tried to download windows 2000 on my windows 98 computer, but it wouldn't let me go very far without the windows 2000 cd. you can sometimes buy cd's like that on ebay cheaper, but i don't know if they work or not. hope this helps.
