Make sure to unplug the computer. Put it on a table and open the side. Make sure to get rid of any static electricity that might be built up in your body by touching a metal part of a case for a second. Then use an air can with a vacuum cleaner. You don't need to actually touch anything so don't worry. Even if you do touch something you will be fine. I've gone in my case a million times and have never got shocked.

Your best bet is to used canned air so you don't have to touch anything (make sure you ventilate the area you are using the canned air in because you will have dust particles flying in the air) If you want to get at the dust with a rag, shut down and unplug the PC. Wait a couple of seconds because there can still be an electrical current circulating in the PC, then go to town!

Use a vacuum and canned air - DO NOT disable the power supply - you can open the case; the power supply is typically a metalic box about the size of 4 or 5 video tapes.
And before you do anything - unplug the power cord from the computer.

Turn off the computer and use a vacuum cleaner with a brush and/or nozzle attachment.
If you're adventurous take the screws off the case so you can get inside and vacuum the inside too. You'd be amazed how much dust can collect inside the case, and it will help the computer run cooler and last longer if you clean out the bunnies periodically. :-)

There's this stuff you can buy at the store called air in a can. It may sound silly but it has a straw that fits to the thing and blows out strong bursts of air. This is the best way I know of to clean many parts of your computer.

I shut mine down, remove all the connections and take off the side. Then I take it to the garage and use my husbands shop vac. Make sure it is blowing the air out and start blowing out the inside of your computer. Works great!!

confident, the fan in easy terms runs to maintain the factors interior cool, no longer airborne dirt and dust loose. retaining the pc "hidden" in a table is o.k. too yet while it feels like the in the table is getting warm and your pc crashes, it ought to be time to pass the pc outdoors of the cupboard.
