No most of the time the shows are taped and they have time to do the closed captioning.

They get the material before it airs and type at their own pace, which has to be fast in order to get the position in the first place. Also, they get things sometimes directly before it is going to air. The errors may be from the computer or from the different people taking over the shift or whatever.

The live things are done live (but it is like a minute behind real time) and it looks like they just skip over the parts of it is going too fast to type.

Nothing on tv is really "live." It is always at least 30 sec. to a min. behind and that is why they have time to bleep things even on live tv.

On stuff like the news they are doing just that, so they're going to make a lot of errors. On shows that are pre-taped they get to go through it slowly and more than once and should be catching errors.
