Actually It worries me in today's society....So I find other fun things to do. I let them dress up....we go to chruch festivals...and enjoy a family night. I have even allowed them to go see a movie or invite a friend over for popcorn and fun at my house. (also costumes have gotten so scary that my children get startled easily)
I never went as a child. My parents always had special things planned, and I never even missed it. Oh and I still got plenty of treats. It was a great night, and I have wonderful memories with out the actually Halloween trick and treating.
