That would be the hypontenuse of the triangle. The formula is (a squared + b squared = c squared), where a and b are the two sides and c is the hypotenuse.

My dad was a carpenter and didn't know the math formula but he always used 3,4,5

one side 3, the other side 4, and the diagonal 5

It works out sqrt( 3^2 + 4^2) = 5

That's how he checked for square.

all four side have to be the same length
the diagnols distance would be A squared + B squared = C squared
so if you fence was a 10 foot by 10 ft square you would do
a.10squared + b.10squared which would equal c.200
now you would have to square root 200 which is appox. 14 and a little bit

it's called a 2 3 5 formula 45* angle one side is two feet and the other is three and then you measure between the ends and you get five feet what ever you are building well be sqaure

to make it square??
that means it is as high as it is wide.
so measure how long it needs to be and make it that high to be square.
