The newsreaders in every civilized country (U.K. and U.S.A.) wear suits and ties - all except for the female ones, of course - and well they should. Jeans, t-shirt, and reversed ball-cap just doesn't do it.

To me, it all depends on how good the suit and tie is. I would rather see someone in a tasteful designer shirt eg Ralph Lauren reading the news than someone in a cheap-looking suit and tie.
A lot of them need to get some colour in their wardrobe- just because they're talking about serious events does not mean that they had to put on this sham serious/concerned front.
How intelligent, well informed, trustworthy and personable the newsreader is is important.

By wearing a suit and tie, I think it makes the newsreader seem more professional along with the company he's reporting for-it makes it seem like he takes his job seriously.
Think about it- would you respect or even listen to a newsreader with a stained white t-shirt on and some ketchup on his chin?

BBC like CNN and TME and Newsweek etc are the most ignorant and dis-civilized people. They are the spreaders of lies and distortions. To call them civilized is an insult to civilization as civilization begins with truth and care and respect for human vlaues which they have NONE! In order to hide their sub-beast character they dress up so they are acceptable and their daily churned out garbage too which has really caused toxic dame to the brains of many in USA and Europe and other parts of the world and thats their objective i.e you buy and digest all their piggy garbage!

but its the BBC, upholder of standards (occasionally) its not fashion, its authority. our newsreaders are spokesmen and women for the nation. we trust them, and pay attention...

would we pay as much attention if johnny newso had a T shirt and shades, or a hoodie.. i doubt it.
