Well, you will have to specify, because there are many.

Anna Pavlova was an amazing dancer and gymnast. Marie Salle and Marie Camargo were very famous way back in the 18th century.

Mikhail Baryshnikov was my favorite dancers (of that time). Read here if you would like to learn about him, he was a great dancer, and handsome too! I have a huge picture of him over my bed.

Some other well known dancers are Alicia Markova, Maria Tallchief , Margot Fonteyn , Rudolph Nureyev, Nijinsky Vaslav.

Some famous ballets I have seen and/or been a part of are Coppelia, Giselle, Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, and La Sylphide.

In the 1940s and 50s, Alicia Markova and Margot Fonteyn were prominent with the Royal Ballet. Margot Fonteyn's career lasted into her forties, due in large part perhaps to her wonderful partnership with Rudolf Nureyev--so they, as a pair, were very famous in the 1960s. 1970s and 80s--who but Gelsey Kirkland and Baryshnikov? Of course it depends on whether you're talking from an American or British standpoint, because stars of NYCB or ABT will always be better known to an American audience, except perhaps with especially well-known people, like Margot Fonteyn and Darcey Bussel.
