"Should he just turn his back on the world?" And have someone stab him in the back?!? No thanks! :p
There is much positive in the world, too. To find it, you need to look at individual people. Don't go looking for it in any group of people, especially if looking at the group as a whole, for you will likely be disappointed. Perhaps the most important place to look is inside yourself.

It depends on where you stand in relation to the world. What is the real world, your head or where everyone else lives outside of it? Will turning your back on the world give you a positive view of selfish, greedy people? Where do you stand, and how does that matter to you?
You do matter, but bad people are also real. They will always be there. You can change people for the better, but there will be a lot that you can't control. Ask yourself ultimate questions like, "Who am I?" and "What is the meaning of my existence, and how does it coinside with the rest of life?" Broad, deep questions that are not easy. But they're worth all the time that you can give them. Be thoughtful when approaching anything or anyone. And reflect as much as you can. Take time in the silence to look back into the mirror of the past and to gaze into the pool of the present.
Life is worth living, even in the midst of worthlessness itself. But you're the only one that can know if that is true. I can tell you, a teacher could tell you. But do you know it because of who you are? Where does your mind dwell? Maybe that will reveal where you are right now in your life. How much do you see and how well do you see? This should answer your questions.

One should ask himself why is all that he sees negative.
Everyday you can see positives in life. Go to the park watch the parents playing with there kids. Go to the Library ask someone for a good book to read. Then ask them why they liked it so much. Go to the mall sit on a bench a watch the people go by. You'll see people loving each other, helping each other and just being positive.
Just because one bad thing happens don't let it ruin your day or life. Bad things happen all the time and so do good things. Seek out the good, change the bad and every ones life gets better.
Moods are made. Have a good day!

It's all in your perspective. I see positive every day when I go to work. I spoke with a 4 year old today who's mom is dying. This child looked at me and said, "The angels will come soon and my mommy's boo- boo's will be be all better."
Why can't grown-ups see things this way?

Seek out good people, they are there looking for their own...go to Church, volunteer in a nursing home, VA hospital, for Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts, for the Red Cross, Salvation Army....seek out the good, it does exist.

No. Then he should do something to change the world with his own actions. Use his own power and do something good for the people/environment around him.
