What is the different between Jazz and Hip-Hop?

Hip hop is a culture. And I agree that rap is crap. Anyone that knows anything about music knows that they are two totally different things.

Hip hop music is (although not limited to) about cultural and social awareness. Rap music is usually bragging about how many jewels you have and how many times you busted your gun.

Jazz music has usually signified a tradition in Afro-American music that began as a folk music in the South and developed gradually into a sophisticated modern musical art form. While classical and hip hop have often borrowed features of jazz, they remain outside the jazz tradition.

jazz is old style. Hip hop comes from Jazz. Jazz originiated way back when and was the first style of dance music. Hip hop has I suppose evolved from jazz

Jazz is quality. Hip hop today is crap. I've heard jazz is where hip hop started. Today of course songs are terrible and I can't even turn on my TV or the radio anymore.

I won't answer Jazz, but hip hop started in NY. It consists of DJs, MCs, Breakdancers and Graffiti Artists. Hip hop is more of a cultural phenomenon than a music type.

Jazz is cool and hot at the same time. It's smooth and sassy. Sexy and sensual. Hip-Hop is a lot of crap for people that don't know real music, and just throw stuff together, usually trashy, and call it a song.....

Jazz explores expirimental instrumentation, stemming from early blues-influenced musical styles, but is more progressive than the standard 12-part blues scheme. Jazz ranges from basic forms comparing to early blues tones to complicated froms such as bebop, which uses complex melodic tonal (and sometimes completely atonal) schemes. Jazz is more freeform.
