I am paying a company by check. They say they received it, but they never cashed it. This was a little over a month ago. Will the money go back in my bank account or what?

My understanding is that unless there is a specific expiration period on the check, it can be presented for payment as long as the person is holding it.

If the account is closed, it will be returned to the depositor as a "closed account" and they might come after you for it. You could also put a stop payment on it, but the same applies.

I have had checks take 3 months to clear.

You should talk to your bank to see what their policy is.

After 30days and the check has not been cashed it may be lost you should call you bank and put a stop payment on the original check. Fail to make good on a check after 10days of receipt you should notify co and find out if the check is lost you can pursue legal intervention.
