Each race has its own attributes. Tauren, for example, start out with the most health so that makes them pretty strong. Humans have a Spirit bonus so they recover a little bit faster out of combat. Undead have the fabulous Cannibalize ability that allows them to eat corpses and gain their health back pronto.
Different races have different classes, too. Tauren and Night Elves are great because you can play a Druid, a VERY strong class. Humans and Dwarves allow you to play Paladins, another class that if played right is almost invincible!
Other than that, the races are pretty much the same. It's all aesthetics, and whether or not you like the faction, starting area and lore.

there really is no strong race...... its basically how you can use them to your advantage =/
