My first try would be to try and help them think of positive things about themselves and the world but if it turns out to be just lip service then I would like to shake em up.

It's obvious you have no empathy for others' pain. Maybe your punishment would be to have both your daughter and wife die on you which is what happened to me. Then maybe you'd listen to someone who feels bad and realize that some people seem to have worse luck than others. But that assumes you're a human with real feelings which I doubt. And as for the answerers on this question, all I can say is shame on all of you.

Nah.
I'm content to let them get on with it. And they do me no harm.
Fact is, some people do get the thin end of the wedge. And it often happens they do have something to gripe about.
And even if they are making mountains out of molehills it is of no great concern to me.

I don't feel bad for them really. I know I can't change them by smacking them. Just realize what a good person you are. And by all means don't encourage them.

Especially when they bring it on themselves. Like, "I quit my job because they wanted me to work Friday night and now I have no job!"

It depends on why their lives suck so much. Maybe they just need to get it out of their systems.

Yes. Yes I do. The thing that pisses me off the most is that they just complain and complain, yet the NEVER do anything that could make their situation better!!!
UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I feel your pain and I want them to feel real pain. I hate those ******* people.
