How was your day, or what did you do today? What they like to do, like crafts, sports, walk on the beach etc. What did they do over the summer. What's your favorite food.
I don't know what state you're in and if you have lots of sunshine, but I live in Washington State, so I could say: I'm sure going to miss this sunshine. Only because we had a beautiful sunny one, and we're still getting more.
For right now, this is about all I can come up with. If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

Just say hey, what's up as your walking past them. Usually, if they want to talk with you, they will stop you, and start asking some questions.

Put "conversation starters" in your browser and it will give you links to many sites, depending upon your age. Good luck. (I would eliminate religion and politics)

compliment them on something they have and talk about it for a second, and that'll probably lead you to something else to talk about, you know. it just takes time. just go with the flow and dont be nervous.

try this, it works for me all the time, say "Hi" and that'll start most any conversation!
