Core 2 is their new micro-architecture, it's based upon the Pentium M architecture...It's somewhat simpler and faster than the previous Net-Burst architecture.

Duo refers to the fact that there are two processor cores on 1 die (piece of silicon).

This is the trend since microprocessor designer are having a hard time increasing processing capabilities with a single core, so they are putting multiple cores on a single die.

It just has 2 different processing cores. It is not better all the time. Alot of programs and games just need 1 processor. In the future programs might need 2 though.

its a great processor, because it is faster than it's competidors, while keeping energy consumption and heat levels down. do not listen to fanboys/girls because AMD processors WERE the best before the core 2's came out. sadly, i have an AMD Opteron and no longer have the money to upgrade to core 2 duo.

Its the newest processor from Intel, and to put it simply it is better because it has better architecture. In addition, it is pretty much better on anything, even things that only use one of the two cores, that is how good the new architecture is.
