if I have a medical condition that requires the use of a refrigerator, is it illegal for hotels/etc to charge me for a refrigerator fee?

no--it's not their fault you need a refrigerator.
some already have them standard in each room; and the room rate has been increased for everyone b/c of it, even if it's not used. just like your room fee includes the cost for them to have tv's, heat, a/c, toilets, water, etc.

ice is free at the machine; bring a cooler from home and you won't have to worry about it.

I don't know the law but if you refuse to pay a refrigerator fee, they may offer an alternative such as keeping your medication in their office refrigerator. I don't think they are legally obliged to provide a refrigerator in your room for free as long as they make "reasonable accommodation".

No it is not. Most great hotels have them for you any way It's getting fairly common like T. V. I would think.

I don't think so. I was once charged for a safe ($15) that wasn't even in the room.
