The formula for the peimeter is

P = 2L + 2 W

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

let

w = Width

w = 5 equal length

38 cm equals the perimeter

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

P = 2L + 2 W

38 = 2(W + 5 ) + 2W

38 + 2W + 10 + 2W

38 = 4W + 10

38 - 10 = 4W + 10 - 10

28 = 4W

28/4 = 4W/4

7 = W

The answer is W = 7

The solution siet is [ 7 }

Insert the W value into th equation

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Check

P = 2L + 2 W

38 = 2( 7 + 5) + 2( 7)

38 = 2( 12) + 14

38 + 24 + 14

38 = 38

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
The length is W + 5

7 + 5 = 12

The Length is 12 cm

if you draw out a rectangle and label the length x + 5 and label the width x, you have x + 5 + x + 5 + x + x = 38
(because perimeter means to add all of the sides and the opposite sides of a rectangle are equal)

now solve by combining like terms....4x + 10 = 38
subtract 10 from both sides of the =
you now have 4x = 28
divide by 4
x = 7

the width is 7 and the length is 12...
to check add 7 + 7 + 12 + 12 since this equals 38, you got it right!!

l = w + 5
p = 2(l + w)

38 = 2((w + 5) + w)
38 = 2(w + 5 + w)
38 = 2(2w + 5)
19 = 2w + 5
2w = 14
w = 7

l = 7 + 5 = 12

ANS : Width = 7cm and Length = 12cm

l=w+5
p=38cm
p=2w+2l=2w+2(w+5)=4w+10
38=4w+10
4w=28
w=7
l=w+5=12

check
p=2w+2l=2*7+2*12
p=14+24=38
