The Velvet Mafia rules the Beltway!
This is from the 10/7 New York Times:
The presence of homosexuals, particularly gay men, in crucial staff positions has been an enduring if largely hidden staple of Republican life for decades, and particularly in recent years. They have played decisive roles in passing legislation, running campaigns and advancing careers.
Known in some insider slang as the Velvet Mafia or the Pink Elephants, gay Republicans tend to be less open about their sexual orientation than their Democratic counterparts. Even though the G.O.P. fashions itself as “the party of Lincoln” and a promoter of tolerance, it is perceived as hostile by many gay men and lesbians. Republicans have promoted a “traditional values” agenda, while some conservatives have turned the “radical gay subculture” into a reliable campaign villain. And there are few visible role models in the party; Representative Jim Kolbe of Arizona is the only openly gay Republican in Congress.

I think the difference between the Republican Gays and the Democratic Gays, is that the Republicans thinks it's safe to remain in the closet while the Democratic Gays feel more free getting out of the closet.
Closets in general, just represent a secret about an issue(s) whether it be a gay issue or another issue

2 reasons. Many gay people make a lot of money and want the tax breaks that being a Republican gives them. They hate themselves and don't want anyone to know they are gay. how many openly gay people are Republicans? Not many. They usually are in the closet.

Doubt there are many gay conservatives at all. And conservatives make up a part of the republican party and to a degree define many of its policies. But you did use the correct term, gay republican. Having said that, now there are liberals. They are a part of the democratic party and are attempting to define its policies. No decent democrat and Nooooooo republicans want that either. So, expect to see more of the same in november, and two years from now. Truth hurts I know.

A gay Republican is not possible. They must be democrats in drag. Even Fox is reporting Mark Foley as a Democratic.

The republican party is so full of hate for anyone who isnt white, christian, and straight.. Being a gay republican makes as much sense as being a black Klansman or a jewish Nazi.

The left claim they support homosexuals, yet bash homosexual Republicans.
The right claim they are straight even if they are homosexual (with the exception of Log Cabin Repubs).
They're both lying hypocrites.

Mark Foley has given Republicans a bad name. He deserves to be kicked out of office and thrown in prison. Most pedophiles learn their lesson well when thrown in with a mix of prisoners.
