Breast cancer usually begins with malignant lumps (not water-filled cysts, which are quite common) in the breast(s) and/or under the arms. This form of cancer can affect both men and women. If allowed to "grow", it typically spreads to the lymph nodes located under the arms and intensifies it's aggressive take over of healthy cells from there.
Traditional medicine utilizes it's arsenal of drugs, radiation & chemo therapies, and surgeries to fight the spread of cancer. As a general rule, complete removal of the cancerous area will limit the spread of the illness when all else fails, and hopefully prolong the patient's life.
In more cases than not, disease can be prevented with self-awareness & knowledge, diet, emotional balance/well-being and lifestyle. Successful prevention includes abstinence from toxic foods (i.e. the North American diet where cancer seems more virulent), and avoidance of various other life-styles which compromise the immune system, thereby limiting the invasion of chronic and life-threatening illnesses.
It is much easier to maintain health than to regain it.

A local radio station is collecting used bras and connecting them together across the city. If this project is for school you could collect them and connect them around the football field or hang them in the gym. I thought that was a really good idea. This way you can get the whole school involved in collecting them and maybe get donations for the breast cancer association. Lots of luck.

How about coping with fear of getting the disease after loved ones have been diagnosed? Many people with breast cancer in their families are deeply afraid of also developing it. It would be an interesting look into breast cancer.
