My husband and I will be celebrating our first wedding anniversary and would like to do something extra special, something that we wouldn't usually do on any other weekend or previous special occasions. We are willing to travel, but no more than 2-3 hrs to celebrate our special weekend.

You don't mention locations available or money restraints.
Guys are enamored of women's bodies. Women w/ romance.
So - pack up the suitcase. You wear a thong - even if cut up panties and no bra. That's for him. Flash him before you leave or in the car. You get the romantic dinner w/ candlelight - even if you have to use a small one of your own. He holds your chair, orders for you, corsage...whole thing.
Day after - you get thee to a mall for lingerie shopping. You agree that rather than sweat the gifts each year, you'll purchase the lingerie treat of the year. Walk through the town holding hands. You have to stop and kiss at every red light.
Have fun and many more years of love.
