Plain ignorance ,alcohol is very addictive. Peer pressure or to just look "cool" in front the girls, alcohol is the legal drug of preference it takes away your inhibitions turning you into a "confident wo/man.I come from a family of alcoholics and I have seen my father, brother, nephew acting the same patern destructive behaviour.First there is this intake alcohol progression that escaletes more and more, one of my uncles die from alcoholism and I can tell you he really suffered so very much.Telling someone to not do it is not going to work, and sometimes is best to leave the person to learn their own lesson.Look at the tv the commercials and the glamour being with the buddies the party,is alright but do you need alcohol?.I was drinking 24 pack during weekends then started the wednesdays the fridays saturdays and sundays it almost destroyed me but I got lucky and learn my lesson not before getting very sick and some damage to the liver, see what I mean?My advice is don't bother drinking you can do better without, for some individuals is never too late for others is.Much metta to all.

Okay, I go to one of the biggest party schools in the country, Florida State University, so I have at least some creditbility with this issue. I have been hearing about it a lot lately and I really don't see what the big deal is. We work our asses off to pass these classes why can't we get drunk on the weekends? There is no cause, its just our way of relieving stress. It's fun and we enjoy it. It loosens us up after a tough week of school.

fear of being accepted, as the wise man above me said, peer pressure, being without parental supervision (sometimes for the first time in their lives), the fact that they figure that if a couple of drinks make you feel (braver, smarter, more sociable, funnier, etc) then a whole lot of alcohol will make them a whole lot more braver, smarter, sociable and funnier. I think that is just scratching the surface but its what i could think of on the spur of the moment

Peer pressure, thinking that it is fun to drink, taking stress away, trying to be cool, depression... there's quite a few reasons.
