If you're straight, when did you "choose" to be straight?

I was born the way I am, no one chooses their sexual preference. It isn't like a religion where people choose what to believe. People don't choose to be hated.

I believe all are born straight. Some people may have more of a weakness for the same sex just like some people as they grow up may have more of a weakness for booze, or drugs ect. But just because you have a stronger urge (or greater weakness) than others doesn't mean that it is normal or right. If it were right than eventually we will have to give the child molesters, drug addicts, and alcoholics the OK to fulfill their desires regardless of how it affects others. I am not saying some one who is gay is as dangerous as a child molester, or a drunk driver. What I am getting at is where do we draw the line as to what is right and what is wrong.

By the way I have friends who are gay so I am not biased.

It is an interesting fact that over half the men who are gay have been molested by a male at some point in their life. Other men who are gay have been emasculated by their fathers and society for what they look like, act like, their interest ect. It's not uncommon to hear from a gay man that their father called them f*g**t, sissy, or what ever because in their fathers eyes they weren't a "Man." Some times guys who feel they do not have manly features or qualities become so envious of men they think do have them, that some where along the line they become obsessed, or attracted to men saying, I must be gay.

Another possibility for some people engaging in homosexual acts is the power of media. If you think I am crazy glance over a book by Jeane Kilborne (don't know if that is spelled right), can't buy my love. She talks about the power of advertising. As an example she talks about how much it costs to produce an average t.v commercial during a Super Bowl in 1999. I can't remember the exact figure but it was some where around 2 and a half million to produce and air a 30 second commercial. Do you think Bud light would spend that kind of money on something that does not work. Advertising is powerful! T.V pushes the idea of explore your sexuality. Sex feels good but as you become bored with someone, you give your self to another, than if that doesn't work than maybe two people will suffice, if that doesn't work than maybe an orgy, if not that than maybe you try the same sex. For some people all of that will start to lose it's appeal than they might get involved with children, some may even graduate to bestiality. Sex can be just like drinking. For some one who drinks over a period of time they start to build a tolerance and they must drink larger amounts in order to achieve that buzz they are looking for. As you build a tolerance sexually you must become more and more extreme in order to be satisfied.

Sorry for rambling.

I am straight. I chose to try being with a woman awhile back(23). It did not last. Choosing to be with the same sex was just a phase in my life. I am now engaged to be married to the opposite sex and I am going to stick with that because it is what is natural(27 now). Its like positive and negative attraction. When it comes down to it you end up using toys to satisfy the missing void.

I think I *chose* to be Gay when I met my Best Beloved. When we met (and I do believe in love at first sight) we both knew that this was the soul we had both been waiting for. The fact that we were both women was interesting but overcome fairly easily. It's been 26 years now and the love is still as great as it was.

You're in the wrong section. But before you go, I want you to know that people really do make behavioral choices.

I am woman, I was made for man, and thats the way its been from the beginning, Thats Gods way. I didn`t have a choice, If I had a choice I might have chosen to be a man, Im not sure, but it seems to me, that men don`t get hurt, or have troubles like women do.

Soon after you were conceived and long before you were born. It was not your choice, it was gods. No one chooses orientation. there is homosexuality in ALL animals (they sure never choose) of every type. There is all kinds of hard science to back that up to. We are what we are when we are born. Period.....

Well, sexual orientation is not a choice of ours.. we are born the way we are, no choice... no one asked us what we want to be.. If you have the choice, what will you chose ?? to be str8 and have a normal life or gay and lead a discreet life.
If you are a str8 man who has lots of affairs, they call you "playboy" but if you are a gay with lots of affairs, they call you a "bit..."...

Do you think if I have the choice, should I chose to be a "playboy" or a "bit..." ???

you're delightful, and I love you, but there are a LOT of bisexuals out there that do make those choices--and I've met some that asked me that question in all sincere honesty and afterwards confided to me that they did have to make a choice
