because, george steinbrener paid out like 200 million to win a series and he wants his pound of flesh. he can't get that from a-rod or mussina or cano....so he's going to get it from torre.....
the reality is george needs to look at himself. for the last 3 years, he's been trying to win a championship with nothing more than power hitters and has been pitching. and that just ain't how it works.
the tigers beat the yanks with great pitching and taking advantage of scoring opportunity. "small ball" is what it's called. it isn't always as exciting as grand slams....but as the tigers proved....it does win you ball games......

cuz, how do you have a $290 mill payroll, with arguablly the most MONSTEROUS batting lineup known to mankind and not score and win a ring in the past 5 years? PLUS, 4 out of 5 years you get skunked in the first round of play-offs. All that screams for a change. Watch for A-Rod being put up on the chopping block too.
