Put a hot water cloth and (keep them coming) on the affected area, then after the pain subsides, walk on it to work it out. The moist hot water will take the pain away immediately and for maintenance I take Quinine 1-2 tabs a day. I find that when I stop the Quinine, the cramps come right back within a week, so I take them every day - religiously.

Don't know by your profile name whether you are a male or a female, but women around the age of menopause often have leg/foot cramps when they are low on calcium as well as the magnesium and potassium your other answerer mentioned. If you are female, I'd add calcium as well to the recommendation.

When I get leg or foot cramps, the first thing I do is grab it and hold it real tight.
. After it starts to go away, I massage it or rub it for awhile. It usually goes away right away and doesn't come back. Try it. I hope that it works for you.

Sometimes it's caused by low potassium. Try eating foods high in potassium like bananas and see if it helps. Also, you might try adding a multi-vitamin to your regimen if you aren't taking one already. If these things don't help you, you probably want to see your doctor because you could have a more serious problem!
