I have an HP computer with a Plextor PX-708A DVD R/RW CD R/RW. The drive was working fine and now will only play a DVD and will not play a cd or write a cd or dvd. All setting are good cables are good uninstalled and reinstalled the drive in the properties tab of the drive says the drive is working normally. Any help?

feels like a driver problem, or a lens problem, try using some lens cleaning discs, reinstalling the cd driver softwares, and using some advanced cd rom softwares like alcohol120% and Nero to read CD, probably this can help.

Hmm...I'd say it's a configuration issue. Have you installed any new software recently?
You could also try opening the computer up (WHEN IT'S OFF) and unplugging the power cable, and plugging it back in, do the same with the big grey ribbony-cable in there too.

ahhh i have the SAME ISSUE, but ive got a vaio.
my drive doesnt work either, but my music works, and i can upload anything, but DVD's dont work.... :( i hope your question is answered, i'd certainly like to know too!
