There is a bit of a difference between "It's A Wonderful Life" and "The Five People You Meet In Heaven". George see what life would have been like without him, while Eddie meets five people who had something to do with his life whether he met them or not, and these people explained his life to him. The deeper concept in "The Five People You Meet In Heaven" is redemption. Eddie thinks he wasted his life at the amusement park when it is revealed to him by the Japanese girl he unknowing killed in the war that he kept children safe and that made up for her death. Compared to George and Mary's marriage, Eddie and Marguerite's was tragic and ended with Marguerite's untimely death. The "Five People You Meet In Heaven" was a terrific novel which made you think while "It's A Wonderful Life" is a classic with a happy ending.
