Earth's atmosphere is very essential. It helps in regulating the temperature on earth. The gases such as CO and CO2 are harmful. They get trapped and then cause the globe to get warm. Plants inhale CO2. So it's beneficial to grow plants. As they would utilize the Carbon di oxide. And we (humans) are adding Carbon di oxide by different means. We should preserve the atmospheric ozone. It is very important.
I know that I have provided this information and it would make some sense. This is because of the fact that this topic is very vast and has a lot to offer.

The atmosphere is important because it has the proper levels of gases for living things to survive. The Earth causes more damage to itself than we do to it. The holes in the ozone layer are mainly above the arctic and antarctic regions, where sunlight is reflected off the ice, causing double the damage of the sun alone.

earth's atmosphere keeps life alive, if it wasn't there then the sun's heat would bounce back into space & we would be in a very cold and lifeless place for as long as it took for us to die of lack of oxygen/food/warmth
the atmosphere also takes out enough heat for us not to be fried and pollution endangers that because it clogs up the natural space that regulates incoming & exiting heat
therefore keeping in sun rays that come in (which raises temperatures) which makes the ice caps freeze & species of plants and animals die because they've got no time to adapt (not because they can't)
and soon enough sea levels rise and humans get burried under land that used to be their homes (unless we do something truly adical of course, which we're not)
