They were not given a choice other than to house the British soldiers. They were not given any compensation when the soldiers were in their house and the people were sometimes forced out of their own homes. They tried to protest but were brutally beaten in several cases. They really didn't like it. this and several actions by the British lead to the war of indepentance.

They were mad and I think they started a riot I dont member all too well I did it last year=p
