Barbra Streisand uses her nose as a great sounding board when she sings (I heard her describe it as this during an appearance on a variety show when she was only 19 years old.)

If it works so well for her, maybe you can learn to do the same? You'll have to find a singing coach though, that will be able to teach you the technique.

I would have to agree with neurotic on this one, lay on the floor, and concentrate on breathing from your diaphram. Watch your stomach go in and out. If you can see your chest and shoulders lifting up when you breath in, then you are not doing it correctly. Also, remember to open your mouth wide. This is important if you are going to learn to sing properly.

plug your nose and try to sing as un-nasal-y as possible. Get used to doing this. This will get you into the habit of singing throgh your mouth. Also do breathing excersizes and you should put a humidifier in your room.

1 - Go to the hardware store
2 - Purchase four 1/2" corks
3 - Gently but firmly insert one cork into each nostril
4 - Now you can sing through your mouth, but you'll probably sound like Elmer Fudd
5 - Give the other two corks to whomever has to listen to you sing

Watch the movie Sister Act. There is a Nun who sings real quiet- until she is shown how to sick from her belly.
Also- when I was in competitions- we would suck on lemons before a performance. It helps loosen any yucky stuff in your throat. (we won many years- so this is tried and true!)

I saw and interview on 60 minutes and the interviewer asked Andrea Boccelli how he is able to get such power out of his voice and he layed down on the floor. It teaches you to breathe from your belly and to bring the notes up from your gut.
