I do not know if you mean crystalline? if that is the answer well, it is strong due to the fact that atoms are fully packed with each others in a repetitive pattern. The central atoms generally have a hybridization of sp3 and tetrahedral structures (with 4 perfect covalent bonds). Therefore, materials like crystalline ceramics exhibit strong structures, but that makes them easily breakable too!!

If the molecules are locked together forming a tight structure, then you need to add heat in order to make them more mobile.
