Life is choice driven. We succeed and fail as a result of the decisions that we make. So when we encounter problems most times it is a result of what we did, failed to do, or what we neglected to plan for. Situations beyond anyone's control can and do come up. But they are very far and few between. The decisions made before and after an uncontrollable situation determine the severity of the problem.

For instance, a flat tire is beyond my control. Whether or not I learn how to change a tire prior to this happening will determine how big my problem is and the cause of the problems that occur afterwards. So if I were to examine this scenario, this is how it would go if I didn't learn ahead of time-

Problem #1 - I get a flat.
Problem #2 - I don't know how to change a tire
Problem #3 - I will be stuck on the side of the road for a long time
Problem #4 - I would need to call a tow truck
Problem #5 - I don't have $75 to pay the driver
Problem #6 - I end up walking home or getting a ride
Problem #7 - None of my friends who know how to change a tire
Problem #8 - The car gets impounded for being left on the road
Problem #9 - I have to come up with $350 to get my car out

Problems 2 through 9 could have been avoided based on some decisions that could have been made prior to this happening.

I guess it would be my own actions because of the choices I make. I choose to live the life I live - could walk away from a lot but I don't. Financially I choose how I spend my money, so when there's not enough to go around, it is my own doing. I choose my friends, so if one does something not to my liking it causes problems; I choose to remain friends and work it out.

We are responsible for only one person and that is ourselves. Everything you do has cause and effect. The actions of others only come into play when you react or act against or with it. I never blame others for any of my problems. I make my own decisions and my actions get me where I am.

Definitely your own actions. Because you are the only person who is able to make your decisions and control your own actions. Only you can decide whether to make it a problem or not.

It's a both. I know that these days we are all told by Dr. Phil that we should be accountable for our actions... Blah blah blah...

Nonsense! There are some a--holes out there that deserve to be called just that. Those self-centered people, and there are a lot more than we'd all like to admit, cause many problems. From to schoolyard bully to the ultra-rich indistrialist that moves his plant to a third world country to save on abour costs, these people cause a lot of problems. I Don't subscribe to the bullshit guys like Steven Covey propound that you shape you're outlook on life.

Listen, if I'm laid off because some selfish group of people that are so insecure that that constantly need more money and power decide to increase their revenue at my expense, I entitled to be angered. i'm not going to sit and say, "Life is good."

Sure if I let this anger go on and turn to depression and I can't find another job because of it I am responsible for that part.

My reaction to the actions of others cause a lot of problems. If you don't let people get to you then what they do will have no effect; I have difficulty with this, but am working on it.
