Don't take baking soda for heartburn. Try one of the over the counter medications first. If one of those does not help or you get worse, you may have to go to a doctor for tests and help. I would try one of the over the counter medications first though. Also try restricting your diet. Cut down on caffeine, citrus juices and spicy foods. Keep your heal elevated when you lie down. Try to eat small meals instead of large ones. I hope these things help and you get better soon.

The best thing I have found for heartburn is AcipHex. It's a prescription med that you take once a day. Baking soda may help ease symptoms, but I doubt it will cure like AcipHex.

Be careful about drinking sodium bicarbonate
(baking soda) it can cause acid base imbalances inside of your body which can lead to very serious medical problems. Stick with otc or prescription meds. Talk with your doc.

anti-acid I think.
Sodium bicarbonate is the chemical compound with the formula NaHCO3. Because it has long been known and is widely used, the salt has many other names including sodium hydrogen carbonate and "sodium bicarb," as well as baking soda, bread soda, or bicarbonate of soda. It is poorly soluble in water. This white solid is crystalline but often appears as a fine powder. It has a slight alkaline taste resembling that of sodium carbonate. It is a component of the mineral natron and is found dissolved in many mineral springs. It is also produced artificially.
