My college dance team has an opening and my friend asked me to join. One of the girls on the team broke her leg and had to step down.

However, things are a bit awkward. I did not go through a formal tryout process like the other girls and they are putting me through an initiation. It seems a bit extreme, but I really want to be on the team. I was told this will last for the remainder of the semester.

Basically I have to do whatever any of the girls on the team tells me to do. After each game, I am responsible for washing all the uniforms, tights, etc. The captain of the team has me come over and clean her room once a week. Another girl who is a senior has me rub her feet right after practice.

Even my friend has me do things. I carry her books to the classes we have together and she had me cook dinner for her and her boyfriend at our apartment.

I am a bit upset, but feel like I should put up with it. Afterall I did not tryout and should be thankful for the opportunity.

Hazing usually has a time limit of about 4-6 weeks. If it's been longer than that, it's time to get back at them. if they ask you to carry their books, drop them on the floor once you reach the destination.

Or, if they ask you to clean the uniforms wash them without soap or somethin'

this sounds more like a movie sorority freshman initian procedure. these girls are uising you for a doormat and you are letting them. stop! Now! you may also want to check the school's bylaws; to be fair to you and others, if the college dance team has an opening because of an injury, they may be required to have another tryout, or pick the last person who got cut at the original try outs. after all, this is considered a sport

if your dance team has specific traditions, then introduce them to the recent members. (permit's say, uniforms are offered to the recent members or something like that) yet please do no longer bypass to the mean hazing point. :( Then the recent members would be so intimidated by the older females that the team won't artwork as properly jointly. a chum of mine had her domicile thoroughly trashed by the captains. for useful, she hasn't bonded comfortable with the team. additionally, you could manage a speedy dance habitual for the females who've been on the team to accomplish for the recent females. no longer in basic terms will the recent females experience stimulated seeing the older females carry out, yet all of us gets the experience of the team and bond for the period of the element all of them love: dance. consistent with probability you would be able to desire to all watch a movie with some dance choreography in it (because of the fact this would be a dance team, ideal?) no longer something brings human beings jointly than a movie and a few junk food :D And, finally, do no longer overlook the sleepover necessities: -a lot of food (do no longer overlook correct to the vegetarians that is on the team) -soda, beverages -cushions -movie -video games (the two board video games, or video games like fact or dare) have exciting!

Sorry but it sounds like they're taking advantage of you. If you're good enought to be in the team, they should be thankful that you want to join them and help them out! You should not have to be a slave to them - it sounds like something they would do in a sorority. Girl, you need to get the respect you deserve and leave the team and try out for it or another one next time there's try outs.

You are being taken advantage of! Even though these girls are not hurting you physically, they seem to be hurting you emotionally. If you were not good enough to be on this dance team; I'm sure you wouldn't be on it. I wouldn't put up with it any longer if I were you.
