Yes, it is Columbus day..and I agree that it isn't mentioned as much as it was years ago, maybe it's because there is so much more going on in the world...I did hear it mentioned once on the TV news, and mentioned once on the internet, so I can see how if a person wasn't paying close enough attention, it would be missed...I believe that certain agencies still close on Columbus day,,,,imagine that...lol

The REAL Columbus Day is Oct 12. (my birthday) The nation celebrates it today because they make it a Monday so people have a 3 day weekend.

I think it may depend upon where you live.
In Cleveland, Oh, there is a big Columbus Day parade.
However, around here (Akron, OH) schools are open and so are other businesses (not the Federal or State offices).
It's just another day!
It is less important than in previous years.

i do no longer have fun Columbus Day. till I appeared on the calendar, no, i did no longer comprehend it became as we talk. The bloke took credit for somebody else did. i do no longer see human beings celebrating Amerigo Vespucci day or something.

It is just observed today so the govt. offices & banks get an extra day off,but it is really on the 12th of Oct.
