Has to do with the location of the sun. The further the sun is from the Earth, the colder the seasons. Earth revolves around the sun once in a calendar year. Night and day has to do with the spin of the Earth.

We have day and night because the earth rotates on its axis around the sun.The part of earth that is turning to face towards the sun has daylight. The other half that's facing away has darkness. And since it takes 24 hours to make a full rotation, any given spot on the earth will have around 12 hours of daylight and 12 of night-- (more or less depending on the season and where that particular spot is on the curvature....)

We experiences seasons because of the tilt of the earth on its axis. And because of the curvature of the earth. That causes more or less direct rays from the sun in one hemisphere or the other at different times of the year.

Neither day and night nor seasons is caused by the distance from the sun.

Day and night are caused because the world is rotating, so different portions of the earth are facing and not facing the sun. More slowly, the whole planet is also moving through space around the sun in an ellipse, so sometimes you are closer to it, when it is hotter, and a few months later you are far from the sun and it is cooler.

Day vs. Night - Earth rotates on its axis. It takes about 24 hours to do this. "Day" is experienced by the portions of Earth that are facing the sun.

Seasons: Earth revolves around the sun in an elliptical (oval) pattern AND is tilted on its axis. When the northern hemisphere is tilted towards the sun, it experiences summer (and the southern hemisphere has winter). When Earth moves around the sun to the point where the northern hemisphere is tilted away from the sun, it has winter (and the southern hemisphere experiences summer). The in-between periods of travel create spring and fall.

The seasons work by tilt. Without tilt, no seasons. The days work by spin. Without spin, the day would be a year long. Mars has longer seasons because it's orbit is wider. If we were farther away from the Sun, seasons would last longer, if we were closer, seasons would move faster.
