There are two kinds of Yankees fans: those who follow them because they win, and those who understand the deeper connection to a team with incredible history.

My grandfather became a Yankees fan after cursing the Dodgers for having the audacity to leave Brooklyn. He was a diehard fan and I was born into that, 50 years ago. All you have to do is go see the bronze plaques in the outfield one time to have total respect for what this team has accomplished. There is a history there that is very deep in the hearts of true fans.

My longest-standing wish is that non-Yankees fans would understand that Yankees fans hate George Steinbrenner even more than they do. One of my proudest moments was getting thrown out of Yankee Stadium for holding up a huge sign that read "STEINBRENNER SUX". I went regularly to games during the Thurman Munson era, and I don't think non-Yankees fans can understand how much this team really means to all who have followed it, win or lose, through the decades.

It's just good baseball, is all. Even when it's bad, it's never boring.

Kind of like New York.

Some are, yes. A guy I knew in high school was a "lifelong" Bulls fan when they were winning their championships-- and then a few years later, he had conveniently become a Lakers fan.

One of the biggest reasons people are fans of a particular team, however, is geography. Most Yankee fans I know are from New York, and there's a lot of tradition and history involved.

So the answer is, yes and no. Yankee fans from outside of New York, I'm not sure.

Born a Yankee fan ... will die a Yankee Fan. Win or lose. With or without A-Rod. This year the pitching was just awful, and except for Jeter and Posada, the hitting was bad too. Getting rid of Torre may look like the the best option, but I don't think Pinella is the answer.

Well, there are Yankee fans and there are used to be Yankee fans. Seems they have quite a few more vacancies on the bandwagon now that they haven't won the World Series since 2000. Gettin TO the playoffs is "absolutely unacceptable" and longer a feasable solution. Onward --->Thru the fog!

Not me. I was born and raised in the Bronx and I've been going to Yankee Stadium to see the Yankees since I was little. Always will be a Yankee fan, not just a baseball fan.

of course yankee fans are fans because the yankees WON a lot, and its also because of the location. i mean, come on, it is NEW YORK, the big apple. and the owner has enough money to practically buy an island, and plus they're a team with a lot of media attention. you add all that up and you'll get a whole bunch of yankee fans!

Some of us are Yankee fans because we grew up in Yankee country. I sometimes wish they would lose more often so I could have that underdog feeling and the rush of adrenaline that comes with a close contest. My NL team is the Phillies so I know what I'm talking about.

U cant say that. Being from the Bronx I can say im a Yankee fan cuz I feel it would be dumb to root for ne1 else. Theyre my hometown team and I goto their games. A losing season cant change that.

Not all of them. Some of them are true Yankees fans and I have to say I have some respects for them. But those so called fans? Forget it. I feel like kickin' their ***.
