...a spot that you can return to years later that looks and feels just the way you remember it from years ago? is it a room in a house, a public place (schoolroom, stadium, office) an outside setting (lake, forest, berry patch?)

how do you feel when you revisit or think about this place years later? if there is no such place for you, what would make a place a special spot for you to come back to?

I'm surprised to find, as I reflect on your question, that there is such a place that I remember to be as it is now. It's a very deep and cold mountain lake in North Carolina, one of those valleys dammed and allowed to fill with water by the Tennessee Valley Authority back in the 1930s. I spent summer weeks camping nearby and swam in its icy water when I was a 15 and 16-year-old. Now almost 50 years later I live in the area. The lake is the same, even some of the trees that shelter the turnoff from the mountain road we used to get to the boulder strewn edge of the water are the same. And the dam and its mechanisms seem just as I remember them. It's probably the only place in this country that hasn't changed drastically from what I remember it first to be. Thanks for the question and the chance to explore.

There is only one place in my personal history that holds the same today as it did the day a memory was made... that place was in a park on a very dew covered day the air was light and breezy.. and the pavilion I was at that day is still standing, with all the memories standing witness to the wonderful time that was made there.

When I revisit there I get a thrill of excitement, a warm cozy feeling on the inside, and of course all of the wonderful memories associated make me feel like I'm home.

There's a falls in the bush that our farm bordered where my siblings and I grew up. It's called Swayze's Falls, and it is where my siblings, the neighbor-kids, and I went to play. It's also where my sister and I discussed the possibilty of running away from home.
