We have that for grade school here. The kids are not away from school so long that they have to spend a month or so re-learning the stuff from last year. Also, if the family wants to go on vacation, say to Disneyworld, they can go when it's not as crowded. They still have the same amount of time off. It's just split up.

Advantages:

Students don't forget everything over the summer, so less time is wasted on review. You would get a break more frequently.

Disadvantages:

There is no summer vacation, which is a classic part of growing up/culture. There is no good point for a new student to come in. Students would get more tired of school. There is no point to start over.

Points to consider:

Grade levels are less defined. Vacations would be less significant but more frequent.

Year round school doesn't mean more days, they're just spread out. Tons of schools are staring it. Rather than 8 weeks for summer they have 6; instead of lots of tiny breaks they're on 6 weeks off 1, on 6 weeks off one, on six weeks, off for either Winter or Summer Break. It's actually very handy and leads to less burn out for both teachers and students as well as higher knowledge retention.

I think year round schools have longer vactions then normal schools. For example, spring break would probably be a month.
