I don't think that is true for all men. There are just some who feel they have something to prove and are doing so by control tactics. It also only work when women allow themselves to be controlled to the point where they no longer have a voice.

The man is the provider, the protector, and visionary of the relationship. Thus he is afforded control of the situation. Women would love to be cared for and they would love to be provided with a lavish lifestyle where all they have to do is go shopping and to look pretty. They also want to live in an environment where they have no worries, cares, or concerns.
But a woman cannot have all of that and then decide that she wants to be in charge. It just does not work that way. A smart man will listen to the advice and opinions of the woman but he still makes the final decision- even if its to do what the woman thinks that they ought to do.
Its the job of the man to have foresight to protect the woman from dangerous and unplesant situations. Like when shopping for a new car, the woman is usually more concerned with the vanity mirror and all of the "perks" inside of the car. In contrast, the man concerns himself more with the quality of the engine and drive train components. He is ensuring that the woman will not be stranded on the road one day late at night. So if he tells you that you can't have the car with the DVD player in it, he is protecting the woman from a much bigger concern that can prove to be a potentially unpleasant situation.
Men carry women out of a burning building during a fire, men fight the wars that protect the country, and men build the houses and buildings that women can live in and comfortably enjoy. If a woman enjoys all of these ammenities, then the man must be in control.

If the guy you are with is a control feak, move on and ask yourself why you would allow someone to treat you like that. I would stop them cold in their tracks. Relationships are to be equal and consentual not a dictatorship. He is not king unless you are his queen and treated the same. If not, then it is not a relationship it is a control issue or you just do what he wants. Not worth it. You will become a robot and loose your true self and your meaning for life. Ask God who is the right fellow for you. He will not mislead you. And then listen to Him

You have complete control of your life. It's your choice if a man runs everything or if you run everything. It's even better when two people in a relationship can have complete respect for the other person and realize that it's an equal partnership

It only happens that way if you let it happen.
Put your foot down and tell them the way its going to be. If he doesn't like it...leave.
