If you are using a USB2 then chances are you have a new system with the latest OS. If you are also talking about connecting a peripheral device to you computer by USB then you dont need to worry! Your probably running XP and all you need to do is plug in usb cable after plugging it in to the device.

Windows will automatically sense the device and if you have a driver disk it will allow you to insert it before completing the install.

If nothing happens, just leave it plugged in and restart your computer and watch.

If that doesn't work, go to your control panel and look for and clik on Add Hardware.

USB 1.0 and 2.0 use the same cable. Its the hardware version built into the machine that 2.0.
Some of the new video capture devices and such require a faster speed than USB 1.0 can deliver so some devices tell you to have USB 2.0. The cable is the same but the speed that data goes through it is different.
