I always strived to understand this quote. Could anybody give me a detailed explanation to this hard-to-understand sentence? He also said that Imagination is his most powerful weapon to solve the problems and guidance. Will be greatly appreciated for any detailed explanations.

There is no wrong interpretation to this quote, but here is what I think:
Discoveries are not made by what we already know.
Learning is an act of discovering what we will figure out (usually by accident).
A society cannot survive unless it learns all the time. Otherwise, everything fails, because nobody learns how to fix the new problems.
Wouldn't life be boring if you already knew everything?

Imagination is the workshop of your mind. Every invention began as an idea in someone's mind that was supported by coherent action.

Imagination is IMAGE + ACTION

If it is only an image then it is just wishful thinking/dreaming.
If it is only an action then it is just an act/pretending.

When Image and Action are harmoniously united something 'new' is created.

Knowledge is always old by the very fact that it is known.

Both knowledge and Imagination are important as each has some of the other in it; yet Imagination is more important than knowledge because knowledge is 'old' and imagination is 'new' (creative).

May You Be Richly Blessed,
James

as quickly as upon a time... guy imagined flying. by experimentation and different strategies for gaining understanding, guy ultimately found out to fly - the two interior and out of doorways the ambience. First got here mind's eye, then got here understanding spurred and inspired by making use of the mind's eye.

I've kinda thought of it as saying that being creative and always searching for new discoveries and adventures is more important than following the work of others and memorizing their contributions. It's better to create your own world than it is to live through the works of others

just because you can memorize the periodic table of elements doesn't mean you actually know anything useful. coming up with theories like general and special relativity requires an imaginitive mind. einstein even admitted that he really didn't "know" much.

I think the point of this quote is clear: Knowledge isn't useful if you can't think of creative ways to apply it.

imagination seeks to expand upon the knowledge we already have. without imagining how to apply or to improve upon the knowledge we already possess, the educational process will stagnate.

i cannot know exactly the mind of einstein (who can?) when he said this. but coming from someone whose ideas are considered revolutionary, it would follow that bursts of imagination are what drove his theories into fruition, when applied to knowledge. fits and starts are how man's ideas have progressed, and the creativity of imagining new ways to combine what we already know has played a large part in our advances, wouldn't you say?

What we know is like History. It is settled, resolved. Over with.

Imagination is ALIVE. It takes what has been seen, and known, and done, and RECREATES it in new combinations and forms.

Imagination has no limits. It goes beyond the (currently) possible to what MIGHT BE....

It is "I know" vs "What if?"

Good Question! :-))
