I agree with The Baron. Respect is lacking in today's youth, yet for some reason, they seem to think that they are owed respect. In my book, respect must be earned. The other thing that seems to be lacking is education. It's the most valuable thing these kids will ever own... and it's FREE. Here on Answers, I see kids who are so lazy that they put all their homework questions here for others to do for them. These are our future fast food restaurant managers. Maybe they think that ignorance and the inability to communicate is cool.

I know that nobody will understand this reply, but I don't think the youth is lacking anything. I think it's the parents that are lacking. The youth can't have the things we expect them to have if they're not taught it. Parents are lacking the time and concern for their own children. I'm the parent of a 9 year old girl. I see it all the time. The kids get shuffled between daycare and school. Older kids rarely see their parents. TV and video games become babysitters while parents are on the phone, at work or doing whatever. There's total lack of discipline. I can give so many examples and go on and on.
My answer plain and simple is the youth aren't lacking, the parents are. We must remember that kids aren't born bad or rude or any of that. It's all about what we as adults and parents teach them. It's the parents and adults in the life of youths that's lacking.

=I agree with the others. What really bugs me is that attitude that today's youth have. They feel they are "entitled" to everything without earning it or working for it. As far as working they feel that they can spend their paycheck on themselves and mommy and daddy should continue to support them. Whatever happened to the words please and thank you? Many have replaced these words with vulgarities which is part of their every day language. I must also add that that there are some very nice, well spoken, thoughtful and hard working kids out there and they deserve a lot of credit for being different from what seems to be today's norm.

Work ethic. I thought it was just my sons until I heard my friends saying the same thing about their kids. I certainly tried to instill a good work ethic to my kids and constantly stressed that something worth doing is worth doing well. But I don't see much of a work ethic in very many young folks these days.

Respect. Kids today have no respect for anything. Not their parents, not the law, not even for themselves. Everything is all about rebellion, and in most cases, involves violence.
