It is a question governments and people around the world should examine, study and analyze. Unfortunatly, we are fighting it and not attempting to cure the roots of this phenomenon.
Why? lets take a quick look at the middle east. A special focus on the Palestinian - Israeli conflict which has been running since the early 20th century. Land seized by Israelis, western world assited them, what do we expect, flowers? we helped occupy the lands of people and yes they are desperate, because they are homeless, poor, being shot and killed everyday. They are ANGRY, put your self in their shoes!! wouldn't you be??
The conflict has captured the hearts and souls of people in the middle east, seeing their mothers, brothers being killed everyday and since their governments would not solve this problem, some individuals have taken it upon themselves to get the job done.
Poverty is also a major factor, all the terrorists are poor people with nothing to look forward to, life is not important for them and they have been brain washed into killing innocent civilians.
Did you hear about the Ben Laden religious justification for killing innocent civilians? THEY PAY TAXES! supporting the U.S government that is interfering in their lives, assisting Israel etc. Islam forbids the killing of innocent poeple, it is actually a major sin that can not be forgiven, but Bin Laden was able to bypass this by brain washing his people into believing this crazy theory and to be honest, I can see why they believed him!
I think we should deal with the roots of the problem by getting out of there, stop interfering in their politics, society etc and I am sure the world will be a safer place for all of us.
One last thing to take into consideration, Islam has been around for more than 1500 years, yet we have only recently started feeling the rise of terrorism, it is not the religion, it is the politics that has caused this mess and we need to look at our own actions before judging others.

Because it is so very profitable to some people.
In money and or in power of another kind. And the media makes sure it is effective.
What could be more "terrorist" that the Nazi attacks on British civilians during the Battle of Britain? That was ot terror, it was TERROR!
Why were the British able to carry on in spite of terrorism? Because that's what one did. Now the fashion, pushed by the media and by the politicos is "Be afraid, very afraid, of damned near everything."

Terrorism will always exist as long as there are the haves and the have nots.
Terrorism is another word for war. It's a different type of war, that which is waged by a small few.
History tells us that the have nots will always attack the haves. The haves will call them something...terrorists, fascists, jews (Germany WWII), etc.

Most terrorism is conducted by the secret services, primarily CIA/MI6/Mossad/ISI, who between them are responsible for 9/11, 7/7, Madrid train bombing, Bali bombing, Mumbai train bombing, Lockerbie air disaster, and loads more.
The idea of terrorism is to promote the agenda of the Illuminati/New World Order, who control the governments, and their secret services. That agenda is to take control of the entire world, remove over half the population, and reduce the freedoms of the remainder to the levels of slavery.

I think that it exists because it is a scare tactic used to try and render someone powerless or at the very least to try and cause some psychological damage.
