My band teacher said it helps to be part of ASCAP, but she is not. How can she publish her song?

This is a Christian song that she wrote on her own, words and all.

As soon as you produce intellectual property (e.g. music, poetry, books, film, etc) it becomes copyrighted in the eyes of the law. All you must do is provide proof that you did indeed create the work (which is easy since your moms voice is the song). If you put something into print, adding a copyright "c" along with the year and your name or company's name helps too.

Check out the United States Copyright Office for more info, if you guys are in the US. Google copyrighting for outside the U.S.

Ask Lourdes, Madonna's daughter. She would have the resources to know that.
