You can click on this link to get step by step instructions as well as actual screen shots of what you will see. The first link shows an XP Home with Service Pack 2 upgrade install.

The second link is the home page for "windowsreinstall.com". From this home page you can see the various install options for XP Home and XP Pro.

Even though Microsoft is supposed to release Vista in January 2007, I think it's going to have a lot of problems and I wouldn't get it until after the first service pack is released. Another possible problem is that Vista will scan the computer. If Vista thinks the computer won't support all the applications, it will not load them. So people might spend big bucks for Vista only to find out that some of the features won't be available to them. Just something to consider.

And finally, here's a link to a site that has some decent prices for XP Home and XP Pro:

this is what you do you buy windows xp home service pack 2 then you put the windows xp home in the cd drive a windows xp menu will open close that off then restart the pc , it will boot up off the cd rom then your have 3 options you go for the 3 option that is to leave everything as it is do not pick format what so ever when you have move to the open leave everything as it is windows xp home will install now your come to a part where your have to set the copuntry and time zone , then your come to the part where your have to enter the product key , you do that then if is ask you where you want to install windows . make sure you put in the box

c:\windows
then you click on next then windows xp home will install and take over windows me
and all your files will still be on the hard drive and all your pc drivers , you just let windows xp home install like that and all will be fine do not stop it when it is installing and if your using a laptop make sure you have the power on not the battery . you dont want the pc going off while windows xp home is installing , make sure you buy windows xp home with service pack 2 on it ,when windows xp home is installed you will have to Activate it . buy calling microsoft. but your see a Activate screen anyway

You can buy an XP upgrade which will convert your existing WinME installation to a WinXP install.

I've never used it so I can't comment on how easy it is.

I never had many problems with WinME. To be honest, I found it to be better than Win98SE which crashed every 1/2 hour. Admittedly the computer hardware it was installed on turned out to be faulty so I'll never know, but from my experience I had a better time with WinME.

To be honest though, using an upgrade is kind of 'dirty' for getting XP. You would be better getting a proper clean installation of windows XP Pro.

Good luck

Go buy the upgrade disk and follow the instructions. It is really pretty easy and you shouldn't have any problems. You should not lose any pictures or anything but back them up anyhow. You should back them up even if you don't upgrade.

The software should go without a hitch too. Occasionally you need to reinstall something because it works a little differently on one OS, but that is not the norm.

Its better to have new Windows XP than Upgrade.
You can find Windows XP in only $49 from this web site.

If you could not find then search by
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
and you will find it.

If you upgrade, yes you will lose everything.... unless you back it up. You can back up stuff like pictures, word documents, music, movies, but you cannot back your programs up since they use registry settings in your current system.

All you need is the Windows XP CD and boot your PC with it inside and everything else is self-explanatory.

XP is NOT an upgrade, it will wipe everything off your computer when you install it. It's like starting over from scratch. You will need to back everything you have up on CD/DVD. Also, Windows Vista is coming out in January 2007, it may be better to wait until that operating system comes out before switching.

you are able to't improve at as quickly as from domicile windows XP to domicile windows 7. era. it won't carry over your archives. era. you should purchase the extra low priced "improve" version of domicile windows 7 on the grounds which you have already got XP, and you will "improve" your working gadget to a extra recent version, yet you are able to't at as quickly as "improve" and function your archives, settings, etc. carry over as maximum persons prefer. you will technically be compelled to do an entire sparkling installation, in spite of in case you have the "improve" version. era. i did not make it this form, Microsoft did. and that i responded an entire entire ton of questions approximately this while domicile windows 7 got here out. it may probably be sensible to bypass with domicile windows 7 at this element in the adventure that your laptop can cope with it and the guy on the save will do it for you with no extreme cost. in spite of if, you will ought to lower back up something serious in case you prefer to maintain it. Your archives won't nevertheless be there. the neatest element to do (in case you are able to discover the money for it) is for the guy interior the save to place a sparkling difficultcontinual on your laptop and to place in domicile windows 7 to that. you are able to then nevertheless connect remotely on your previous difficultcontinual, and pull off any archives that are nevertheless there. in the adventure that your previous difficultcontinual became the middle situation (which the guy interior the save ought to have the means to at last tell), this protects you. And if it is not, you are able to now use it as a backupcontinual as a replace. yet all of us telling you it is not any situation to "improve" or which you have a call between an improve and an entire installation or that your archives will nevertheless be there for you is inaccurate. XP to domicile windows 7 is *continuously* a sparkling installation, in spite of if it is finished with the extra low priced "improve" version of the utility.
