It is called WebDeveloper Tool Bar which adds a menu and a toolbar with various web developer tools.

Some tools are for disabling / enable styles as you mentioned in your description, html, images, ect. Very neat for people like us:
And there are many stuff.

Firefox: Web Developer 1.0.2 -> https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/60/

IE: Internet Explorer Developer Tool Bar

I personally installed both, so I can do live design editing, and fixing. I personally like Firefox better.

I hope that answered your question, Take care and good luck

there is the option in Firefox (and possibly in IE, although I have never looked for it) to override many style settings (specifically font faces, sizes and colors). The toolbar your friend has probably just uses that feature to disable or enable styles.

If you are using firefox you should be able to just download an extension (Tools->Extensions->Get More Extensions), or just go into your settings (Tools->Options...->Content tab->Advanced (in the fonts and colors section) ). In IE you will probably need to do a Google search to find one, if it is possible in IE.

i have never heard of a favlet that can do that. but you can disable style sheets and javascripts in html pages.

search for "bookmarklets favelets". these are short one line javascripts that add functionality to your browser. when you locate the one you want right click it and add it to your bookmarks or favorites depending on the browser you are using. netscape bookmarklets also work in mozilla. favelets are for internet explorer.

when you want your browser to do one of these functions simply click on the favelet or bookmark for that function.

you won't believe how many there are
