Open some scanning or imaging software. Choose get images, choose scanner.
Microsoft office tools, Microsoft office imaging or document scanning are good ones.

maybe there is something wrong with the scanner. if its new, return it and get a new one. scanning isnt that difficult especially if you checked the book and the website. oh, did you install the software? thats all I can think of.

did you read the owner's manual for that scanner.
we can't help you since you didn't mention which scanner model you have. everyone of them is different
