Iraq is currently chaotic and requires more spending to maintain something that resembles control. Although Afghanistan is the home to many people who are a threat to the U.S., Afghanistan has basically no infostructure and isn't as chaotic (civil warish) as Iraq. Moreover, it would take a large ground force to attempt to control Afghanistan, something which many have failed to do. The cost of actually trying to control Afghanistan is exorbitant, while the cost of just hanging out there isn't too bad. So based on our current state of affairs, it would take a lot to move all of our troops to Afghanistan. Whether we should be spending more money and resources in Iraq is a completely different question, depending on our priorities. Our current leaders percieve the benefits of staying in Iraq minus the costs of staying in Iraq (which includes a weaker force in Afghanistan) are large enough to stay. And depending what on their goals are, they may be right. There will be a minority of Americans who will be happy with the result of a war in Iraq and for them—why not stay?

Because we are rebuilding Iraq into a democratic nation and before we could do so we had to take out Saddam, and he didn't go down as easily as the Taliban did in Afghanistan.

Yes, more soldiers usually mean more expenses. We have a lot more deaths in Iraq too. What is your point?
